During the Middle Ages there was a Livonian Order Castle in Puurmanni. The manor, which was later established at the same location, was associated with the von Buhrmeisters and von Manteuffels. In 1877-81, one of the most stylish Neo-Renaissance main buildings was established in the manor (used as a schoolhouse).
